Land Of Matissia Necklace

Land Of Matissia Necklace

Inspiration for this design came from Russian folk tales for children about Zhar-ptitsa, and from the painting of Ivan Tsarevich catching the Firebird's feather by the famous illustrator Bilibin.
The Russian Zhar-ptitsa is known in the west as the Phoenix.

For a long period of time I considered how to make a necklace dedicated to this bird.
I wanted it to be a very special, made my way variation, but I was not sure which bead stitches to use.
One nice day I saw a pattern on Paisley by Diane Fitzgerald and I immediately knew how to bead the bird's tail.

I used Basic stitches as:
Freeform Netting, Square stitch, Looping Stitch, Brick Stitch, Stringing, Peyote rope;
Modified Paisleys pattern by Diane Fitzgerald;
and some of my own developed:
3D flower, Peyote Leafs, Bird pattern.

Seed Beads, Buggle Beads, Pressed glass, Tigereye chips.

This design published in Bead&Button Magazine February 2009 Issue.
